War of the Worlds
So I saw War of the Worlds this weekend (yeah I actually managed to get off my fat ass and do something). I haven't seen the original movie nor have I read the book. But here's my modest review of the movie:
First of all, I thought that there were some inconsistencies in terms of the theory of EMP. Apparently, EMP can take out all electrical devices no matter how big or small. Unless of course if that device is a camera. Camcorders and disposable cameras (with flash) work just great when your friendly neighborhood EMP wave decide to hit. So keep that in mind next time aliens try to invade your hood.
On with the story. The plot to this film was hmmm...alright I guess. It wasn't deep or anything but the whole idea of being observed since creation was interesting. I thought that the ending left you with more to desire. Don't know if the story was written that way or if it was just Speilberg. Anyone read the book?
Finally, I'll address the issue of acting. Dakota Fanning was pretty good at playing a young girl, but then again she is a young girl so it's not like she had to study too hard. Tom Cruise sucked as an actor because he couldn't convince me that he was Ray Ferrier the lead character instead of
Tom Cruise: Scientologist Prick playing Ray Ferrier. Nice narration by Morgan Freeman BTW.
BTW, I only remember seeing 2 asians in the whole movie. There were entirely too many white people ^_^
That's all for now. I felt obligated to write something since I haven't posted anything in a while. Sorry if this was a waste of your time.
